Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall deployment and execution of engineering services including manufacturing support, process and equipment development, product development, quality and testing, standards conformance and customer support.  This leader is also responsible for the development and performance management of the engineering team.

The Engineering Manager prioritizes projects and allocates resources based on need. This individual assures timely completion of projects and responses to production and customers.  S/he ensures product, quality, certification, and product safety standards are upheld.

S/he works closely with the Vice Presidents of Sales and Operations to create new products to meet customer requests.

Essential Job Functions:

– Adhere to the safety policies of Yale Cordage, Inc.
– Provide timely technical expertise to improve process efficiency/product quality.
– Final word on product safety, quality, and fitness for use.
– Work with the design team to develop safe, efficient, and effective products and processes. This includes balancing design for manufacturability with cost effectiveness and market needs.
– Coordinate the engineering team, assigning short- and long-term goals for successful completion of projects.
– Manage the engineering team and oversees their training. Ensures the functional areas have the proper training and resources to be successful.
– Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional team members to develop specifications, coordinate prototype fabrications of customer-designed parts, and transition prototypes into manufactured components.
– Provide cost-saving initiatives by evaluating manufacturing processes while maintaining quality standards.
– Create and analyze prototype products.
– Ensure effective and efficient process validation activities.
– Oversee the design of experiments to provide data-based conclusions about a process or product performance.
– Ensure conformance to certification standards through proper testing, documentation, and manufacturing practices.
– Evaluate new materials and methods for production.
– Coordinate up-to-date and accurate documentation.
– Assist in creation of publishable research findings in the form of abstracts, papers, and grants.
– Support patent filing and claims.
– Write technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations.  Assure that wording is carefully selected to conform with legal and business need.
– Serve as a part of the Safety Committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

– Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering, or another related field.
– 8-10 years’ experience in manufacturing (technical textile-related industry preferred).
– Demonstrated leadership skills
– Experience with and knowledgeable of ISO 9001 standards.
– Proven ability to conduct FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, Regression Analysis, and other problem-solving and statistical techniques.
– Experience with ERP software.
– Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and SolidWorks. Advanced to Expert level Excel required
– Team player with strong oral and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Overseeing Engineers and Technicians.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in office, lab, and factory settings requiring the ability to sit, bend, stand, twist, kneel, and work overhead.  May be required to lift up to 50lbs occasionally.  Extensive use of computers.
